BUTCH JOHNS MEMORIAL COMPETITION

THE EVENT:

The event is held early in the year towards the end of January and is a fun competition for all who attend. You will find a good gathering of locals and visitors alike in attendance each year.

EVENT HISTORY:

This is an annual event to honour and celebrate the memory of BUTCH JOHNS, the founder and visionary of Innis Fly Fishery. Dave’s father, Clarence ‘Butch’ Johns, had a small parcel of moorland which he did not use which had a spring-fed river running through it. Dave’s idea was to build a lake for his own personal use. With the help and support of his father and siblings the lake was created. After Butch passed away his son Dave decided to hold an annual friendly competition in his fathers memory. The event has been well attended and has been running now for several years.

EVENT RESULTS 2025:

Sunday 2nd February 2025 …we held my Father’s memorial trophy competition. Fifteen anglers took part catching a total 68 fish which gave a good rod average of 4.5. Local angler, Dan Woodward, followed up his success in the last winter league heat with another stunning victory. Dan caught a massive 15 fish, catching on all of his 6 pegs, which gave him a magnificent total of 21 points…which is a record. Dan won a cash prize and the coveted Butch Johns Trophy. Second place went to Paul Nottle catching 8 fish off 3 pegs for 11 points. Third was Andrew Willoughby catching 7 fish off 3 pegs giving him 10 points.

Thanks again to everyone for taking part in this special competition which continues to keep my Dad’s memory alive.

Tightlines,

Dave & Theresa
